Earlier this year at the White House Early Childhood Summit, Scholastic committed to donating 300 libraries of board books to Early Head Start programs through the "Invest In US" initiative.
As those books make their way into the hands of young children this fall, we're reminded of why we do what we do.
"The right book is a key that opens a world of greater understanding, self motivation, joy -- it opens a world of possible," Scholastic Education President Greg Worrell said in this video we filmed at an Early Head Start center in Atlanta, GA.
Ensuring that all children have access to books at an early age is a long-held goal of ours at Scholastic, because we know that children from low-income families, who often have no access to books in their homes, don't get exposed to the songs, stories and vocabulary that their peers hear and very often fall behind before school even begins.
As Greg Worrell said, putting a book in their hands "gives them a chance at success from birth and throughout their lives."
