HISD wins big education prize

The Houston Independent School District won the prestigious Broad Prize for Urban Education today in recogition of its efforts in raising achievement, graduation rates and test scores in the country's seventh largest school system.

This is exciting news for a district we've worked with in many capacities over the years on everything from support for struggling readers to family and community engagement programs.

Greg Worrell, head of Scholastic's Classroom and Community Group who for several years has mentored students in Houston schools, congratulated their "efforts like Real Men Read, representing a model for effective partnerships between school and community."
