Sue Szachowicz, former principal of Brockton HS, is one of the most well-respected and well-known instructional leaders in the country. At Brockton, she and her team worked tirelessly over a 10+ year period to take the school from one of the worst in Massachusetts to one of the best in the state. I had the privilege to recently team up with Sue to write this article for Ed Week. Our premise was simple: We are burying school principals under too many mandates, at a time when they are more experienced than ever…and not giving them the systematic support they need to be successful.
